Stage 2: Wilhelmsdorf to Ziegenrück.
On the second stage of the Hohenwarte Reservoir Trail, you will climb quite a few metres in altitude and will be rewarded with unique views of the winding Saale cascades. Along the unique, naturally beautiful landscape, you will cross the regional recreational areas with their numerous leisure opportunities and hike from the historic "Linkenmühle" mill along the European long-distance hiking trail Eisenach-Budapest all the way to Ziegenrück.

Hohenwarte can be easily reached with the KomBus -Linie 546 from the direction of Saalfeld (Deutsche Bahn connection). Line bundle 5 binds a public transport supply around the entire reservoir with coordinated connections..

By roadComing from the A9, take exit 26 (Triptis) and continue on the B281 westwards to Neustadt an der Orla. Continue along the main road via Pößneck in the direction of Saalfeld. Leave the B281 at Unterwellenborn (Stahlwerk Thüringen) heading south towards Großkamsdorf / Goßwitz / Bucha. In Bucha, continue south on the L2384 to the Hohenwarte dam.
At the Portenschmiede campsite there is occasional parking (Google NAV point).
There is a visitor car park (Google NAV point)in Ziegenrück near the forest adventure trail.
