Thundering water under your feet, millions of glittering water droplets on mossy rocks that are only a little more than man's breadth apart - the Dragon's Gorge is one of Thuringia's most exciting geological monuments. Over millions of years, the water of a stream has dug its way almost ten metres deep into the red rocks below Wartburg Castle. A path has been set up through the 200-metre-long gorge on which you can walk through the fantastic rock formations directly above the small stream.
You start the tour in the Mariental near Eisenach and ascend the Drachenschlucht in a southerly direction to the Hohe Sonne directly at the Rennsteig. After a short breather at the snack bar Hohe Sonne (barbecue), you continue along the Wine Route and to the viewpoint Great Dragon Stone. On the way back, you descend through the impressive gorge Landgrafenschlucht, at the end of which the Mariental Valley awaits you again.
The tour is especially exciting and fascinating for children. There is much to discover and explore.
