A beautiful, varied winter hiking trail through the Thuringian Forest. Ideally suited for families, also with small children or senior citizens. There are no too steep ascents on this beautiful winter hiking trail. In places, the trail is slightly hilly through a spruce-covered high forest. The innkeepers at Forsthaus Sattelbach welcome you with good Thuringian cuisine and homemade cakes. With a little luck, you can also watch the red deer of our forest from the windows of the guest room or watch them being fed.Another part of the winter hiking trail is on the original Rennsteig, always follow the "R", which marks the Rennsteig. The eventful history of our region is not neglected either, whether it is the Rondell monument from the old days or the marked point of the tunnel crossing from the Thuringian Forest motorway on the Rennsteig from the more recent past. A leisurely tour suitable for the whole family.

With a little luck, you can watch the red deer or the feeding of the animals from the window of the guest room in the Forsthaus Sattelbach.

Rondel Oberhof

Turn-by-turn directions

We start at the Rondel car park and walk a short distance towards the "old golf meadow". Shortly before the AWO-Sano Ferienhotel (behind the subway), the path turns into the forest on the right. Now follow the signs for the winter hiking trail straight on to the Sattelbach forester's lodge. On the way we cross 2 forest paths. After a short refreshment in the forester's lodge, we set off in the direction of the Rennsteig, where we have to cross the Schmückestrasse for a short while.Once on the Rennsteig, we follow it to the right, and after a short stretch we come to the tunnel crossing of the Thuringian Forest Motorway, which is hidden deep below us in the mountains of the Thuringian Forest. We follow the original Rennsteig for the rest of the way and pass the Rennsteiggarten shortly before the end of our hike, from where we can already see our starting point, the Rondel.
